STEP ONE | Assessment and Surface Preparation:

The first step in our process involves a thorough initial inspection of the pavers. For example, if a customer has 800 square feet of pavers that have been previously sealed, we inspect the condition of the existing sealer, looking for signs of wear, peeling, hazing, or discoloration. We also check the stability of the pavers, ensuring they are well-settled without any loose or uneven sections that might require repair before resealing.

Once the inspection is complete, we begin surface preparation by pressure washing the paver surface to remove any contaminants such as dirt, debris, oils, and any efflorescence or laitance that may have formed. Ensuring the surface is thoroughly clean is crucial before moving forward. We then remove at least 1 to 2 inches of the old joint sand to make room for new sand, which is essential for strong joint stabilization during the resealing process. If any acidic cleaners were used previously, we neutralize the surface with a solution of baking soda and water, followed by a thorough rinse to ensure the surface is ready for the next step.

STEP TWO | Stripping the Existing Sealer:

Next, we apply Tru Eco Fast Stripper to remove the existing sealer. We start by thoroughly mixing the stripper and then take precautions to protect the surrounding areas, such as nearby grass and plants, by covering them or dampening them with water to minimize exposure to the stripper. Using a pump-up sprayer system, we apply a flood coat of Tru Eco Fast Stripper evenly across the paver surface, holding the sprayer tip 12 inches from the surface. The stripper is allowed to dwell for 15-20 minutes until the existing sealer turns grayish or shows signs of peeling, indicating that the sealer is lifting from the paver surface. We then use a plastic putty knife to scrape off the lifted sealer, followed by rinsing the surface with a pressure washer using a fan tip to avoid spray lines on the pavers. Cleanup involves flushing the sprayer pump with water immediately after use and repeating the process at least twice to prevent blockages.

STEP THREE | Re-Sanding the Joints:

After the existing sealer is removed, we move on to re-sanding the joints. We select a coarse fractured sand (C140) for joint stabilization, avoiding polymeric sand, as it is incompatible with the Tru-Alpha Paver Seal. The joint sand is broadcast evenly over the pavers, and a low-pressure stream of water is used to rinse the sand into the paver joints, filling them to about 1/8 inch below the chamfer edge of the pavers. After the joints are filled, we clean the surface by using a leaf blower to remove any excess sand from the pavers.

STEP FOUR | Sealing the Pavers:

The sealing process begins with mixing Tru-Alpha Paver Seal. We combine Part A and Part B of the Tru-Alpha Paver Seal using a mechanical mixer at low speed for 2 minutes, then dilute this mixture with an equal part of water by volume and stir for an additional 2 minutes. We ensure that the ambient and surface temperatures are between 50°F and 95°F during application, avoiding application if temperatures are expected to drop below freezing within 24 hours.

The sealer is applied using a battery-powered pail pump system or a pump sprayer, holding the sprayer tip 12 inches from the paver surface to ensure even coverage. As the sealer is applied, we use a paint roller to back roll the surface, eliminating any puddling and ensuring a consistent finish. The sealer is allowed to dry tack-free within 2-4 hours, with a second coat applied after 24 hours if necessary. The pavers are ready for light foot traffic after 48 hours and vehicular traffic after 3 days.

STEP FIVE | Post-Sealing Maintenance:

Following the sealing process, we emphasize the importance of post-sealing maintenance. After the sealer has fully cured, which takes approximately 30 days, the surface should be maintained by cleaning it with a mild detergent or deck wash. We also recommend inspecting the surface for any signs of wear or damage after heavy use, particularly during the first few months. Long-term maintenance includes re-sanding and resealing the pavers every 2-3 years, depending on the level of exposure and traffic, to maintain the appearance and integrity of the paver surface. Regular cleaning helps prevent the buildup of algae, mold, and other contaminants that could compromise the sealer.

STEP SIX |Final Inspection:

Finally, after the curing process, we conduct a quality check to ensure the paver surface is evenly sealed and the joints are properly stabilized. Any areas that may require touch-up are addressed to ensure the highest quality finish.

Our Tru New Paver Restoration Process is designed to deliver outstanding results that enhance the appearance and longevity of your pavers. By following this comprehensive step-by-step process, we ensure that your outdoor spaces are protected and look their best for years to come.
